CLANG - Can you rhyme in time?

Ages : 7 to Adult
Players : 2 to 10
Play Time : 3 to 30 Minutes

Clang - Flip it! Rhyme it! Slap it!

FUN AND FUNNY! “Runny!” “Dunny!” “Plunny!?” “Wunny?!”

  • Prepare to laugh till you cry while you watch your favourite people splutter utter gibberish as they race to rhyme a word.

WOW! HOW? “Now!” “Cow!” “Fraow!?” “Claow?!”

  • Sure, it’s easy to think of a word that rhymes with the one on the card, but can you shout your rhyme before the other players shout theirs? To win, you’ll have to blurt out the first thing your mind (or mouth) comes up with! Just don’t be surprised when what comes tumbling out is the most ridiculous gobbledygook you ever heard! When the pressure’s on and everyone’s rushing to be first, even the sharpest minds short-circuit and the quickest tongues get tied.

QUICK AND EASY! “Breezy!” “Cheesy!” “Queasy!” “Zee-Zee?!”

  • Simple-to-follow instructions means you can learn to play in seconds.

Think: “Rhyming Snap” BUT – you’re not waiting around to find cards that match, you’re racing to shout rhymes that match. Every single turn is a rhyme-roaring, hand-slapping frenzy.

 FLEXIBLE OPTIONS! “Adoptions?!” “Popshens?!” “Slopshens?!”

  • Clang is the perfect fit for any group – large or small. Whether it’s a two-player showdown on a rainy day, weekly Game Night with the whole family, or a Wild Party with your best mates, Clang is the perfect way to get hearts pumping, brains buzzing, tongues tripping, lips laughing, and people connecting.

5 WAYS TO PLAY

  • CLASSIC CLANG:

Players race to collect the most points by calling out a word that rhymes with the one on the card and slapping the card to claim it.

  • TEAM CLANG:

Like Classic Clang, but players work in pairs or groups to collect the most points. The twist is that when one player calls the rhyme, a different player on the team must slap the card.

Communication and cooperation are tested to hilarious results as teams try to coordinate the chaos of who said what, who should be slapping the card, and “Was that even a word you shouted in my ear?”

TEAM CLANG is great for balancing the various strengths of the group, e.g. adults might know more words, but kids are often the most enthusiastic slappers!

  • SHOWDOWN CLANG:

Players start with a pile of 10 cards each and race to get rid of them. When a player successfully calls a rhyme and slaps the card in the centre of the table, they flip a card from their pile into the centre and the race continues. The first player with 0 cards remaining wins.

  • CHAIN CLANG:

This version is not about speed, but endurance. Players take turns saying new words that rhyme with the one on the card. If you break the chain of rhymes by taking too long (>5 seconds), repeating a rhyme, or saying a nonsense word, you must take the card as a penalty point. The player with the fewest penalty points at the end wins.

  • WHACK-A-CLANG:

9 cards are laid out on the table in a 3x3 grid. Players take turns secretly selecting a target word from the grid and then shouting a word that rhymes. The other players race to find, slap and claim the correct target word.

ANY TIME, ANY PLACE! “Any rhyme, any space!”

  • Clang’s convenient take-anywhere size makes it the PERFECT TRAVEL GAME!

DON’T MISS OUT! “Pout!” “Shout!” “Jowt!?” “Nout?!”

  • Experience for yourself this exciting new family card game that has adults and kids alike throwing down their devices and finally spending quality time face-to-face instead of face-to-screen!

GREAT FOR EDUCATORS AND KIDS! “Bids!” “Lids!” “Fids?!” “Jids?!”

  • Clang contains 400 specially-selected rhyming words which are printed on colour-coded cards.
    • EASY WORDS: Yellow and red cards feature words taken from the first 200 high-frequency words (often referred to as Sight Words).
    • MEDIUM AND HARD WORDS: The green cards feature everyday words, and the purple cards feature tricky words. These cards are not only harder to rhyme with but they display 2 words on each face of the card, testing both rhyming speed and visual perception skills.
    • 100% FAMILY FRIENDLY: None of the words in Clang rhyme with any rude words. A word like “truck” does NOT appear in this game, so you don’t have to worry about any awkward “adult words/concepts/swears” slipping out.

(However, for adults in the mood for rude, check out the 18+ humour version called Clang with a Bang!)

    • Clang makes English PHYSICAL and, more importantly, FUN!

Experts agree, children learn best through PLAY!

Clang engages kids because it gets them smiling, gets their heartrate up and gets them moving!

With hands slapping and whacky words flying, practicing English skills transforms from a purely mental challenge into an exciting kinaesthetic activity.

  • What’s so good about rhyming?

Good rhymers tend to make good readers.

To rhyme one word with another may seem trivial but there’s actually a lot of brainwork involved.

Speaking rhymes aloud helps the brain learn to break words down into chunks of sound and notice the connection between patterns of letters (clusters of vowels and consonants) and the spoken sounds they produce (phonetics and phonemes).

Rhyming play builds phonemic awareness which, along with the resulting knowledge of spoken language, is the greatest determinant of a child's early reading success.

  • Clang cultivates confidence, perseverance, and creativity with words.

The silly humour that comes from “mistakes” made in Clang helps kids break any negative associations they have with words and reading, and replaces those old anxieties with associations of fun and laughter. Kids lacking confidence quickly learn that it’s okay to say something wrong, to look (or be) a bit silly. Everyone mispronounces or gets tongue-tied when they play Clang!

  • PRACTICE BY ACCIDENT! Clang is so fun kids don’t even know they’re learning!

Every second playing Clang, kids are practicing word recognition and reading, building their vocabulary, getting creative with language, and learning to love literacy, but, just like mixing the veggies into the meatloaf, all this skill-development and brain training is happening in the background while the kids are distracted by the fun of the game.

  • BUT WHAT IF MY KIDS HATE READING?

They are not the only ones. The statistics on child and adult illiteracy show that this vital human skill has been deteriorating in recent decades. But your children don’t have to become one of these statistics. Often, the problem is that once a kid has stacked up several consistently negative experiences with reading, they tend to reject the activity to protect themselves from feeling anxious, humiliated and defeated. To fix this, you need to provide/facilitate positive experiences with words and reading. That’s what is great about Clang. It connects words with fun, physical energy and humour.

  • TODAY A READER, TOMORROW A LEADER

A passion for words and reading is among the greatest gifts you can give your child, and is one of the most powerful predictors of future success by any measure.

  • Have fun, and happy Flyming. CLIMBING. I meant timing. No. Chime! Uh, RHYME! That’s it. HAPPY RHYMING!

CLANG CARD GAME REVIEW

"This game is the best phonological awareness game I have seen in a long time. It is fun and easy and has children working on phonological awareness without even realising that is what they are doing. I work with struggling readers and dyslexic students everyday, this game has become one of our weekly activities to build phonological awareness an essential skill for learning to read. Have fun rhyming!"
